Trusted Creator Fellowship: What Makes Your Application Stand Out with Executive Director Rachel Lobdell

Let’s get practical: what the strongest applications have in common and how to avoid the most common mistakes.

News Creator Corps (NCC) invests in the people audiences already trust.

Executive Director Rachel Lobdell joins us to share the organization’s vision and how fellowship applicants can strengthen their proposals.

I highly encourage you to watch the 20-minute replay (it’s intentionally short so you can get back to working on your submissions).

“Apply. We want to hear about what you’re building, growing, creating, no matter how small or niche.” - Rachel Lobdell

Some big takeaways:

  • This is a learning fellowship, so don’t be afraid to share what gaps you’re hoping to fill (a.k.a. what you don’t know) and how learning these skills will impact your work and community.

  • There’s no audience size requirement.

  • Take your time crafting your application. It’s easy to tell if your application is rushed.

  • Be specific about the community you serve and what they need right now. What do they appreciate? What’s it like to be part of that community? Thoughtfully consider your role.

  • Apply even if you didn’t make previous cohorts. Applications are reviewed with fresh eyes every round.

A big thank you to Rachel for taking the time to share these insights with the Grants For Creators community!

Applications for the Winter 2027 Trusted Creator Fellowship are due November 13th. Good luck!
