$5,000 Fellowship For Information-Based Creators
Funding and training to level up your connection to your community.
Over the last two months, I have been heads-down, participating in an 8-week fellowship geared toward helping creators fight misinformation.
As a travel creator, the resources and recommendations I share matter.
My readers and listeners trust me and often use my blog posts, newsletters, social content, and podcast episodes as a launchpad to plan their own trips.
As a News Creator Corps Fall 2025 Trusted Creators Fellow, I not only received $5,000 to continue working on “A Deeper Look,” an ongoing cross-country African American heritage audio series that stalled due to a lack of funding, but I have also been learning about fact-checking, how to find and vet sources, and opportunities to partner with newsrooms.
Just yesterday, we learned about how to power up our Google searches - talk about actionable information we can use right away!
By the way, if you’re curious, I’m going to use my stipend to produce a new episode exploring my home state of Connecticut.
Beyond the pizza, lobster rolls, maritime culture, and craft beer, I’m ready to dig into our lesser-known Black history and uplift Black-owned businesses.
Other destinations I’ve covered in this series include Vermont, Boston, Cayuga County (New York), and Columbia (South Carolina).
Press play to listen to this grant-funded travel series.
Black history, heritage, and culture are deeply woven across the country, from north to south, east to west. And there’s no better way to connect these stories than through travel.
Overall, this fellowship has transformed how I approach content creation, and I’m so excited to share that applications are officially open for News Creator Corps’ Spring 2026 Trusted Creators Fellowship!
News Creator Corps is looking for independent creators who provide a service to their community, whether that’s restaurant openings, public health information, parenting discussions, or local stories.
If you create content that informs or connects people, this program will teach you the tactical skills to ensure you are disseminating accurate information.
Creators only need an engaged following on a digital platform (i.e., Instagram, TikTok, Twitch, Substack, YouTube, etc.) and a focus on providing information-based services to a specific community.
Traditional news reporters and journalists who have learned about fact-checking, FOIA requests, interviewing skills, sourcing, and other news reporting skills would likely not benefit from this cohort.
The cohort will meet virtually once a week from February 23 to April 24, 2026, with a weekly posting assignment + a $5,000 stipend. Good luck!
Deadline: December 31, 2025

I love this so much.
Thank you!
