Grants for Theater and Playwrights
The latest funding opportunities for theater/theatre.
We are back with another highly requested “playlist” (our special way of grouping grants) tailored for theater and playwrights. We hope this makes finding funding even easier.
There are currently (2) grants listed.
Note: These grants have already been shared with our paid subscribers in our monthly newsletter (December 2025) and other playlists.
Think of a playlist just as another way to filter funding opportunities, so bookmark this page for later. We will update this resource regularly with new awards we find.
Our other playlists include:
1. [NEW] The Mark Plesent Commission Fund - For New York City Metro Area Playwrights
This opportunity supports the annual commission and development of new plays by working people. The commission provides mentorship, as well as financial and developmental support. Up to two commissions will be awarded annually to promising writers from our constituency of working people, who have not had the privilege or the resources to self-identify or support themselves professionally as artists, but who have shown extraordinary talent, consistency of practice, and a commitment to writing within the mission of Working Theater.
Applicants must identify as a working person or working-class person; have never been paid to write a play or earned a paycheck as a professional writer, though they may have writing experience; love to write, but have not had the chance to develop their writing craft in a professional or university setting, and must reside in the NYC-metropolitan area. Participants will receive a commission fee of $2,000 and be provided with a professional playwright mentor to advise and guide them in the process.
Deadline: February 13, 2026
This is as far as free subscribers go. To access our complete list of grants, become a paid subscriber of Grants For Creators. We spend dozens of hours a month researching and curating this resource. Thank you for supporting our work.
