Last week, I shared my personal story of getting rejected for a $100K grant.

Like many of you, I’ve spent countless hours on applications—only to get that dreaded “We regret to inform you” email.

Grants For Creators is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.

It’s frustrating. It’s discouraging. 😭

But here’s the thing: Winning grants isn’t just about meeting the criteria.

Funders aren't just looking for facts and figures either. They want to see and feel the passion that drives your work.

Ultimately, funders invest in people and stories they care about. That's where storytelling makes a difference.

Storytelling is what brings your application to life. It evokes emotion and puts funders (often total strangers) in your shoes.

But what if YOU are NOT a natural-born storyteller? *cough* 🙋🏾‍♀️

Good news: Storytelling/grant writing is a learnable skill.

Clearly and persuasively arguing the value of our work is a learnable skill many of us are actively developing as creators with no previous grant writing experience.

Whether you prefer to read grant writing books, attend workshops, or learn through trial and error.

A well-crafted story can transform your grant application from generic to fund-worthy, capturing attention and convincing funders to say YES.

But how do you write a story that resonates?

What are funders actually looking for?

You will learn just that in Grant Writing 101, a pre-recorded workshop we co-hosted with grant writer Melissa Wetzel, CFRE.

This workshop helps you set the scene by painting a picture of the world around you where you highlight:

  • your mission (hero),

  • the problem you are solving (villain),

  • and the impact you are making on your community (real people).

It All Starts With These 3 Essential Questions:

Every grant application is, at its core, a chance to tell your story.

Start by answering these:

1. Tell us about yourself and your business/project.

2. What makes you passionate about what you do?

3. How will this grant benefit your business/project and those you serve?

These questions may seem simple, but to stand out requires persuasive writing and engaging storytelling.

Grant Writing 101 Will Help You Nail These Answers and More

Inside this workshop, you’ll learn how to:

  • Clearly articulate your mission and vision in a way that funders understand.

  • Connect emotionally with funders to make your application unforgettable.

  • Demonstrate real impact so funders see why your work deserves support.

Here’s what you'll get:

  • 💻 A 60-minute on-demand video workshop broken into (5) focused modules.

  • ✅ Step-by-step guidance to help you master storytelling in grant applications.

  • 📌 Practical grant writing tips and prompts you can use immediately.

  • 📝Real-world case studies and winning examples.

  • 📩 Downloadable resources, including:

    • Grant Writing Strategy & Prompts

    • Video Submission Tips & Tricks

🔥 All for $27.
