1. [NEW] Tarbell Reporting Grants - For Journalists

Tarbell offers grants of $1,000 - $15,000 to support original reporting on artificial intelligence and its impacts published in established outlets, whether from freelancers or staff. They seek to fund forward-looking stories, examining how today’s technical advancements and policy decisions lay the groundwork for how artificial intelligence will shape our future. Submissions from all experienced journalists and media creators: both staff writers/editors/producers and freelancers are welcome.

2. [NEW] Fund for Investigative Journalism Seed Grants for Early Reporting

Grants are for preliminary reporting for specific projects. The grants cover early reporting that can lead to full investigative projects. This includes, for example, open-records requests, initial reporting trips to identify and interview sources, and the reporter’s time. Funding of $1,000 to $2,500 will be awarded. The entire grant is paid up-front.

3. [NEW] Jacki and Jeff Karsh Journalism Fellowship

This fellowship awards a $4,000 stipend for journalists who produce original work of exceptional depth and authority on Jewish issues in the United States and around the world. Travel and lodging to (3) retreats are also fully covered.

4. [NEW] The 2026-2027 Berlin Prize Fellowship in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Law & Journalism

The American Academy in Berlin is an independent, nonprofit institute for advanced study in the arts, humanities, social sciences, law, journalism, and public policy. Its primary mission is to strengthen the cultural and intellectual ties between the United States and Germany. The Academy welcomes applications from a broad range of disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, law, journalism, and various areas of public policy.

Fellows receive monthly stipends of $5,000, round-trip airfare, accommodation at or near the Hans Arnhold Center, partial board, and access to in-house library services and professional networking opportunities. Fellows present their work to audiences in and around Berlin via lectures, readings, public discussions, performances, and film screenings. They should also be willing to engage with relevant German institutions, organizations, and the media.

5. [NEW] IRE Freelance Fellowship - For Journalists

This fellowship provides cash awards to assist independent journalists with investigative projects. Fellowships are awarded for nonfiction project proposals that demonstrate impact, breadth, and significance. Proposals for books, documentaries, cable series, and other long-form projects are eligible. They also accept proposals for shorter-term work, such as video or audio projects for broadcast or online sites, articles for newspapers, magazines, online sites, and niche news publications, among others. Proposals that deal with whistleblowers, business ethics, or privacy issues will be given priority. Funding ranges from $2,000 to $4,000.
